02 ZO6 nightmare!! Out of nowhere going down the road...fuel gauge goes to empty, oil pressure pegs, water temp gauge goes to zero. "Charge System Fail" on dash and "Reduced Engine Power" shows also. Shut car off and wait...it all resets. sometimes for a day, sometimes for a month. Lose turn signals, power windows, mirrors, etc. until it decides to reset. Dealer could not get it to happen (naturally) and all systems checked okay. 76K miles and no previous history. Any input is greatly appreciated...THANKS IN ADVANCE!!!!
Wiring harness in the A pillars is the place to look first, there is a wire with no insulation on the end that can ground out and cause the problems your seeing. Just pop the accordian tubes going fron the door to the A pillar (they just pull out), dig the connector out and you'll see the wire, usually it's covered in a clear insultation till about 1/2" from the connector.
Check each side of the car. There is a "Sticky" at the top of this section about Electrical issues-you should read it ALL!

I agree...sure sounds like the serial data buss wire in the door-jam accordian tube.
Upon further investigation, and some information from several other forum members, that bare wire is a SPEAKER SHEILD WIRE and really has nothing to do with the serial data issue.
The real problem seems to be a poor power connection in the power connection, If you disconnect the power connection, look at EACH Femals pin in the connector. If you find one that has a deformed female pin like the one in this picture:
Use a metal pick and bend the contact tong back up so that it makes proper electrical connection with the male pin. When the power to the module turns on and off raipdly due to the poor connection, it causes the SERIAL DATA BUS to error out. (NO COMMS)
