After I bought the car last November the motor stopped working, then started again. Once the blower started working last fall it has been OK till today, of course being in MA it has not been driven since 12/1, sitting comfortably in the garage. Today I started it, after I spent a couple hours shoveling to clear the front of the garage bay, and the blower was not working. I dropped the plastic beneath the blower motor and saw a little rust on the motor, no apparent water stains except some purple spots on the foam directly below the motor. Gave the motor a tap with a small hammer and wala motor works great again! No noises either.
Where would moisture come from that would leak directly on the blower motor?? Would it be the large udder or another source?

OK, I checked the large passenger side udder, have skinny arms so I could reach to the bottom of it, and it is soft & squeezes easily. The moisture that got on the motor could have happened years ago but where is my next place to look?

The A/C drain can get blocked. If it does water pours from the blower motor. The drain is against the firewall on the passenger side.
My blower motor also has a short like that. I'm selling my FRC and want the new owner to have it working correctly. What did you end up doing? Did you have to buy a new motor? Mine works when it wants too!
The HVAC Air Box drain can clog and the condensate that collects on the evap coil will spill over into the fan housing/into the motor.
Check the rubber fitting on the fire wall and also make sure the drain pipe isnt clogged:
You can either remove the motor and lube it with some 3 in 1 Oil,, OR,, you can pop off the little 1/2" rubber hose and spray in some spray oil on to the bronze bearing in the bottom of the motor.
