I have a question regarding a seat issue.
the passenger side seems to have a rock issue. Except its not the whole seat. Its just the back on one side. The bottom doesnt do it. Just the top right hand side.
check the DIY thread. the rubber bushings inside the seat tracks have worn out. there are plastic replacements. a few hours of effort and about 50 bucks in parts if you want the premade parts. A lot of people get round plastic washers and file them down to fit. I just got the square premade parts for my rocking seat.
I've had to replace the upper seat frame on mine, it's made of fiberglass and when you take one apart it is actually quite fragile. Mine broke at the pivot point and the right side of the seat back wouldn't latch letting the upper right side of the seat rock considerably.
How many miles before this happend, I am looking at a 97 C5 to buy, the car is low mileage and drives well, just wondering if what = what before I buy. THe only thing I can find wrong with the car is the seat issue and some leather cracking on seats due to the sun, other than that the car is perfect. The seat rocking issue is only on the Passenger side?
Sounds like the pivot point between the top and bottom. The "rocking seat" issue is not really rocking the whole seat slides forward and backwards when you brake and then accelerate. It has nothing to do with the seat back.
If you like the car and this is the only issue go for it. The seats are light and easy to take apart. If the leather is cracked (and it is crappy leather) you need to take them apart anyway to put new covers on. Someone usually has used seats for sale if you find it too far gone to fix.

I believe the seat rocking problem is not so much rocking as it is the seat moves forward a fraction when braking and moves back a bit when taking off. Correct me on this if I'm wrong.
The back of the seat not "catching" is another issue and has been addressed before. There is an old post, but I can't find it, showing how the back of the seat works. I had that happen to me once and I fixed it by standing outside the car, pulling up the tilt lever and folding the back of the seat all the way forward then back then forward a few times. When I released the tilt handle it worked perfectly and has for years. Hope this helps.

I am having the car inspected this weekend. I just moved to CA and do not have a place or the tools with me to do it myself. I have driven the car lready and it drives good. It does need tires though. The car has not been driven much so the tires have started to dry rot, but other than that it looks good.
The guy I am getting it from is suppose to fix the seat issue.
