What is the advantage to a 3 piece wheel, e.g. HRE? It seems to me that a 1 piece would be stronger. Also - is there any real advantage to the high $$ aftermarket wheels besides cosmetic? Don't get me wrong, the HRE's and others are some great looking wheels, but does it really make a difference? :seeya
CCW I think can geive you a great advantage. They are lighter, stronger and come with a large variety of sizes over stock rims. They are also much less expensive then "cosmetic" wheels.
If you curb your wheel, with three piece wheel, you only have to replace outter section  Three piece wheels are cheaper to repair.
Curb a one piece wheel you replace whole wheel :mad
They are not always lighter but most of the time heavier, and i think the only disadvantage of a 3 piece wheel is that it will look smaller than a one piece because of the a small center then around that the bolts then the lip, where in the one piece you have the lip and center only, so you have a bigger gap between the center and the lip which shows that the wheel is bigger.
One big advantage of the 3 piece wheel is it allows you to change the rim width without buying a complete new set of wheels. I recently changed my HRE 547's from 11" to 12" in width. The cost was $210 for the wider inner ring. If you bend an outer ring its a $190 relacement cost. Considering that these wheels list for over $1200 each....this is an important point.
