usually dont post about these types of problems but needed to vent.
i have purchased 3 275/40/17's within the last month all have had out of round and balance issue's. i even bought another set of wheels thinking mine were bent (they were not).
you can visually see the out of roundness on a tire balancer and spinning the wheel by hand.
dont know if its a problem with that size as the 295 35 18's i bought seem to be ok. just kind of sucks to spend that much on tires and have issues.
i can send them in but the car will be down while the determination is made by nitto if they are bad or not.
I just installed these last week and myself installed and balance on a Snap-on balancer, absolutely no problems what you mentioned, and i even drove over 200 miles sofar and i really liked them, i replaced all 4 tires by Nitto NTO5. To me they are really good tires and installing them was piece of cake not like GY eagle F1's they need great amount of elbow grease.
i will probably roll the dice and buy another one, and send the others back so the car isnt down waiting. may try a 255 in front instead of 275 as they are mounted on z06 wheels.
just stinks as that would be the 4th one
Are you sure that they are being installed correctly? I just have to ask because I have already run into similar issues in the past and what I thought were out of round tires ended up being a problem with the installation of the tire on the rim. Just make sure that you are using a reputable installer to do the work. Most dealers and tire places use trainees to do this type of work and you would be surprised at how many things can be done incorrectly when installing tires.
I'm not saying that is the case here but just make sure. Maybe you should go to a specialized performance shop and have them dismount and remount the tires to see if it clears up. I just find it strange that 3 tires are bad.
i may take to the guy who did my suspension setup and alignment.he does alot of local work for the track guys.
also thought about finding a place that could shave them. it is odd that 3 three tires were bad.

update: one tire has a palm size flat spot in it, very visable by just rotating wheel by hand and on balancer, other tire would not road force balance out (best they could get it was 70 lbs. ordered a tire from discount tire (will be mounted tomorrow) as two out of the four i have bought were junk. The bad tires came from performanceplustire.com
after two to three weeks and a few emails i got a response from nitto to take them to the local big o tires as they are a dealer and they will ship them back. hopefully i can get a refund on the bad tires.
needless to say this will most likely be my last set of nitto's.

Assuming the tire doesn't leak, how can it possibly be installed incorrectly?

I thought the same thing until I started reading up on the whole subject. Yes, it is possible and it happens more often than we think. Sometimes the tire does not get seated properly on the rim because the technician doing the installation does not bother to use proper lubrication. You should check out the Hunter Roadforce Gsp9700 website. It's full of interesting information on mounting and balancing.
