Hawk HPS pads have metal tabs, or clips attached to one end of 2 out of each set of 2 pads. the clip is in the opposite direction of the pad surface.
last time I had the stock pads off I don't remember seeing anything like that. could be that I just don't remember, its been a while. but what do I do with this clip? does the pad with the clip need to go on the inside or outside face of the rotor?
I think you are describing the wear sensors that are also on the OEM pads. The GM FSM states the pad with the sensor should be placed in the inboard pad position with the sensor located in the trailing position. On the front that would be at the top of the caliper and in the rear that would be at the bottom of the caliper.
