How much does the hvac unit act. Do?
I have noticed when using my hvac unit my car runs different. How much of the computer system does the unit in the c5 really effect. School me.

When the HVAC is selected to use the AC either in manual mode or AUTOMATIC MODE, it does interface with the PCM. The AC Comperssor ON signal signals the PCM to select a specific IDLE AIR TABLE that incorporates additional idle rpms.
So,,thats why you see changes in the way the engine runs when the AC is selected or cycles on and off.
