I have a 2000 FRC that I replaced the RFA in to use 01 and newer TPMS and Fobs. I can train the Fobs, but I don't have an option for Tire Training.
I put the old RFA back in and checked it, both options are there.
This RFA could be out of a Z06, if so, is it possible that the fact that the TPMS are shut off in a Z06 and that value is stored in the RFA instead of the BCM, PCM or something?
Thanks, but I don't think that is it. Like I said, the Fobs work. These are 01 and newer Fobs with the newer RFA that works, however, I don't get an option for Tire Training, just Fob training.
I know the RFA's are the same, but Z06's have the option shutoff in the BCM. I wonder if there is something kept in the RFA? This was a used RFA, and was possibly from a Z06. I would expect if the RFA was bad, the Fobs wouldn't work.

I can confirm that the trained TPMS IDs (and fob IDs) are stored in the RFA's non-volatile memory, not the BCM. It wouldn't surprise me that the RFA can have that functionality disabled and also stored in a non-volatile area.
You might want to verify there are no codes for B0-RFA in the DIC. I also disconnect the battery when swapping the Class-2 bus devices like the RFA as it gets constant power.
If you see the RFA in the codes list with "No Codes" and the fobs work as stated, you have the 3 RFA wires correct. It would either be a bad RFA or it's been disabled in that RFA.
This thread seems to confirm your thoughts on Z06 TPMS delete on post-01 cars, and would probably take a Tech-II to re-enable. Might be cheaper to just get a different one.

Nice find, I hadn't seen this yet. So, more than likely this was a Z06 unit, but now that it's in a 2000, can a Tech 2 recognize it to change it, or will it not even option it since it wasn't an option in 2000? As for getting a different unit, not so easy, they have been on national backorder for awhile. I might try to find one from a 01 or newer coupe/conv, not a Z06.
It's a crap shoot depending on how they wrote the firmware in the Tech-II. I haven't used one, so I can't say for sure. If the Tech-II is first told your car is a 2000 (or inquires for itself), it may just suppress the options that are not applicable. If the Tech-II inquires each of the computers on the Class-2 bus to see what their capabilities are, then yes.
If the RFA truly stores a TPMS enable/disable flag, the Tech-II just needs to communicate directly with it over the bus and flip it using a super-secret undocumented OBD command. The "for sure" way to do it would be to place that RFA back in a 2001+ Z06 long enough to enable TPMS with a Tech-II, then put it back in your 2000.
The dealer will probably charge $75 just to plug the Tech-II onto your car. A new/used RFA might be a safer bet. Gene at GMPartsHouse has a 10312535 for $87.
That all being said, I'm attempting an OBD project with my car where I'd like to have an '01 RFA that doesn't transmit TPMS. If you plan to go that way, I'd consider buying your disabled RFA. Please PM if interested.
