So you have a P0410 code. You have verified the AIR pump works and vacuum is going to the shut off valve but not much air is coming out the outlet tube to the exhaust. Check your shut off valve!
Here is a picture of mine from disassembled.
You'll see the diaphragm has a perfect looking hole in the middle and there is a perfect tiny rubber circle next to it. That should all be one piece. I was able to glue it back together then added some Right Stuff gasket maker where the diaphragm had deteriorated and reassemble. The valve now works perfectly. You should be able to see the hole without disassembling.
Got the same code on my '98 about two months ago-read on the Forum about checking the vacuum shutoff valve,so I checked, and my '98 is a straight shot to the air check valves-no vacuum valve(hadn't been removed,it never had one-early C5 thing,I guess)
SO,I figured I'd soon be buying a pump-but the pump was RUNNING just fine, just very little airflow.
Then I thought about the tiny square air filter on the pump intake line, apparently installed with the CAI(no provision for it to plug in on there)
That little filter was almost totally plugged with dirt and debris-cleaned it out, tried it again ,and all was good-plenty of airflow and no more P0410 code.
Just something else to check if the vacuum valve tests ok-(or,as in my case, you don't have one)

Good point. My car is a 2002 and I believe the system was slightly different for 97-99.

Actually....no....it's not a straight shot. 97-99 uses a solenoid controlled valve, built into the pump assembly. There is a separate relay to turn it on.

I heard the "click"-never occurred to me it's a solenoid valve.
But the solenoid is inside the pump? , because there's nothing but hose between pump and air check valve.
Thanks for the info-I have the shop manuals, but they don't do me much good sitting on the shelf, apparently.
