I have a 2000 coupe, manual with 19k miles, while cruising today, the instrument panel read" check gauges", the gas gauge had gone to E. I had just over a half of a tank, and put another 5 gallons in after this happened. When I start the car the gas guage needle goes from E to F as it did before this problem but then back to E, thus prompting the "check guages" warning.
Can anyone tell me what to look for and possible where a wire or something may have come loose.
All other electronic warngins and gauges are working fine.
start running some techron through it when you fill up. most likely have some buildup on the fuel sending unit causing it to give a false empty indication. you should be able to go in to your codes and delete it and have the fuel guage come back up
This is a common issue. Techron usually works to resolve it. Pull your codes and you'll find a code for it but usually just shutting down and restarting, it'll work. There is a firmware update available which may also be of benefit.

Sorry to sound so ignorant, but when you guys say "codes" do I need to have a servoce tech connect to the car, or is this something I can check myself? I will get the Techron tomm and give that a try. Thanks for all the responses though, appreciate it.
COODES, read post #4 in this thread.

As byronhunter linked for you, the car's DIC in all C-5's has the ability to display all of the car's codes from all of the computers. Its a powerful tool and know that on the C-6's, they took this out
i put techron in mmy fuel tank and it wasn't soon after it fixed the problem, the mechanic told me it would take about $1000 dollars to fix but now works fine thanks alot
You could have easily found the answers to your two questions by looking at the stickies or by reading one of the hundreds of posts that a search would have turned up.
