My car has been sitting for a few months. I went to start her up and…nothing! No headlights, no dash lights, no trying to turn over. The car is usually plugged into a trickle charger but I noticed it was unplugged from the wall. I plugged her back in and the car started to make a loud fast ticking noise and the light under the hood was flashing with each tick. This has never happened with the trickle charge before. I tried jumping her and nothing. I checked the fuses and they all seem ok. Any suggestion before I have to take her in? I don’t have a lot of skills and my husband is useless.
I agree that the battery is probably dead. If you can disconnect the battery cables and remove the bolt that holds the battery down, remove the battery and have it charged and tested. Most parts stores will charge and test free. It may not be able to be recharged but it is worth a try.
If you can't remove the battery yourself, you might have a neighbor or friend that can. Not difficult if you have a couple of tools.
All the clicking that you hear is relays that are trying to operate with insufficient voltage. If you are going to continue to try to charge the battery with the tender you have (perhaps not the best choice) then disconnect the negative battery cable.
Thanks I'll take it in and see what they have to say.
When most modern batteries get totally discharged, I hear that they will never reach their full capacity again. Someone here in the forum is an formal expert but I don't remember his name. Most likely you'll end up buying a battery. Do not forget that even though you haven't run the car, power is always draining away slowly.
