Hey everyone! I'll start out by stating what I'm doing. I have an 87 Trans AM that I've swapped a fully forged LQ4 (6.0) & T56 into. At the same time I started a second project with the interior. I've mounted in the C5 cluster (because it looks so BA). I'm starting to dig into the wiring and I just wanted to make sure I understand how the IP works in the C5's. If I'm correct the ECM connects to the BCM which sends the data to the IP? If this is correct, does anyone know if the connector that connects the ECM and BCM is part of the C5 engine harness? Also, I understand the BCM controls and monitors a lot of systems such as the abs and traction control. I obviously wont have either of these systems, will this effect the BCM functioning for my IP needs?
The BCM is basicly a specialized router. It interfaces with all the other modules and connects thru the Class 2 Serial Bus There are connectors under the C5 battery /in the fender that join the interior harness to the engine harness and allows the BCM /PCM /IPC connection. YES you will need the BCM to make the IPC read the engine sensors
Alright, thanks for clearing that up. Now do I HAVE to have the traction control system, abs, air bags, etc Hooked up to the BCM for it to function with my IP? Can I just have my vette pcm, engine harness, bcm, and ip cluster without the other "junk"?
It will work WITHOUT the other "JUNK" If you read the DTCs you will have NO COMSS messages for the other modules! Not a big deal. The important stuff is a fully fuctional BCM and PCM with a IPC attached.
