Does anyone have any official GM documentation, collarteral, etc on the Millennim Yellow paint process? I prefer low level, but would like to see some high level info also.
Re: Millennium Yellow Paint Process Question (kewlbrz)
My understanding is that torch red and millenium yellow cars are a tri-coat system The cars are painted with a white base and then shot with either a red or a yellow pearl coat, and then they are clear coated. Hence the additional cost. The car is in effect painted twice.
I don't have any official GM info, but that is how tri-coat processes are done.

Re: Millennium Yellow Paint Process Question (kewlbrz)
When I complained about $600 for a different color, I was shown
a memo from GM that explains that Mag Red and Mil Yellow have
tint (color) in their clear coats. This requires these two colors to
have their own line for clear coating.
GM loves to pass the buck when they can... But then again so does
all Mfg. Ever look at what a stripe on a Viper costs IT'S INSANE !!!
Re: Millennium Yellow Paint Process Question (BlackSun!)
With the white used at the plant, what is the best touch-up/repair process for Mill Yellow? Any special techniques? Anything to ask the body shop about to see if they are good with Mill Yellow??
Re: Millennium Yellow Paint Process Question (Buckmaster)
I can vouch that there is someting white beneath my paint from all the scratches, LOL! Dunno if that's the natural fiberglass color or the base coat for these paints.
Re: Millennium Yellow Paint Process Question (kewlbrz)
I was just curious, as down the road I am looking to add a removable hardtop, and mabey a different hood.
Just take your paint needs to a GM certified or reputable body shop and they should be able to fix you up with no problems. That way you can hold them accountable for the work if it does not match perfectly. :yesnod:
