Car is on jack stands in the garage, half way threw widebody install.. i would rather spend twice that on the tool they used to do yours.. im more of a do it your selfer..
I broke mine as well but luckily the O'Reilly's auto parts store near my house had the entire kit with the heavy duty ones available to sign out for free.
I've removed the wheels on two C-5s, to "modify" the coulum lock plate, and used a KD Tools #3511 puller.
Youre a life saver.. and how do you "modify" them. i called chevy when mine started having issues and they told me service records show that my car has had the recall and there is nothing they can do..

If you're successful in removing the steering wheel, as you work your way down the steering column, you'll eventually get to a round "disc looking" thing with 6-8 notches in it. These notches are the "detents" that the lock pin engages, and prevents the steering wheel from turning.
The center of this lock plate has a bit of a hub on one side, and this hub has just enough thickness to it, that it can be chucked up in a lathe, and the outer perimeter of the plate can be cut off. No detents, no lock up....
I did this to my car, as well as one of my friend's cars, about 4-5 years ago.
Ok.. so i kinda hate my life right now.. i got the nice puller... GREAT tool.. nothing broke.. but my wheel...
So it ripped the metal strait out, as i read could happen. so my plan B is to JB Weld the holes with the puller legs still installed and tomorrow some time give it another try.. Pics
