Recently decided I was going to run DRs at the track. I purchased a set of 17x9.5 wheels to put out back. My tires up front are 245 45 17s would I be alright running 275 40 17s or is that to close to the front size for the TCS system would I be better off running 295 45 17s?
I Will be running them on the street since I don't have room to store them in my car with the jack to change them at the track. But yes when I do run my car I will be in comp mode.
I run 315/30r18(same overall height) on the street and if I leave my traction control on it does the best it can with 150 more hp than stock FWIW Joe(FSTFRC) has driven his 275/40 MT to the track ~60 miles with no issues.
The 275/40 will be faster as they're lighter, provide better gearing, and less rolling resistance...although you might be able to stay in 3rd with the taller tire and will save time on a shift
I run 275/40/17 DRs on the street all the time to/from the track. Sometimes with stock street tires up front and sometimes with the GTO spares up front. I've never had an issue with T/C - A/H coming on.
You'll be fine on the street--Just remember that the ABS brake system is calibrated with a 1" difference in HT from front to back ( rears are taller)--So if you alter this a bit the ABS may not work 100%-- Not really a big deal --just be careful and be aware that at a 100 MPH panic stop around a turn or on a wet road you MAY get some brake skidding-- SAME goes for your traction control----
