I need to get to a muffler shop to get some welding done on my xpipe (just installed headers). can I drive to the exhaust shop with the mufflers unbolted? I am going to leave very early in the morning and plan to drive really slow. any thoughts?
HELL YES and BROTHER,,, your going to think your in a circle track car!! Its going to be LOUD, VERY Guttural and raspy and the interior DRONE will rattle your fillings out but,,,,,,,,,,,,,, the short drive will be FUN!
It wont hurt a thing. I ran my 98 without the mufflers for approx 3 months just to do it..
I've had open cutouts for about 8 years so I think you'll be fine. Just secure them so they can't move around much. Put some wire through the bolt holes and tie them to something nearby so they don't drag on the ground.
thanks guys I flushed the coolant along with the header install and followed the proper proceedure. at 3000 rpm in my garage, I couldn't believe how loud it was!! I'll tie them up and enjoy the sound
Reminds me of 1988 when I drove my Nova 90 miles with open headers because I could save $40 on a new dual exhaust by driving from Nashville back to my college town of Cookeville. I had some fun with a car alarm in the dorm parking lot..
Do you still have the CATS on ?? I've been running my 98 with stock cats and NO MUFFLERS on the street for 5 years now !!! Its really not that loud until you get on it hard--but around town it really sounds cool--More of a race car note--throaty and not the usual low flowmaster rumble we've all settled on-- It does has some ressonance but i don't care--love it--turn up the stereo- !!!
With no cats/no mufflers it will be loud but doable---just drive slow-

there are no cats on the system and it sounded too loud for me. the cats might have toned it down a lot. now that the stock exhaust system is back on it sounds fine. louder than stock with a nice rumble. you can tell its not stock. a bit raspy for me but we'll see how that goes over time.

I just installed long tubes with catless x-pipe. I have an SLP loudmouth axle back. Waay too loud for me.I like loud, but it's ridiculous.
You put the stock axle back exhaust on the car? How's it sound with the long tubes? Does it get rid of the raspy sound?
