Installed my billet **** today and I am not tht happy with a few things, can anyone help me out? The factory **** came off great, however the new **** went on a bit rough. The threads felt a bit tight and the **** left some fine shavings on the boot as it went on. I backed it off to make sure the stick threads were ok and they look fine. I also think the engraved shift pattern should end up in the proper spot when the **** gets tight, mine is upside down. The **** gets loose if I back it off a turn. Should I use a thread locker or send it back for a non-engraved ****. The thing feels good shifting!!!
Thanks for the input

Wow another member from Rockford! Hey I have the engraved Kirban ball also, mine came with a lock nut that you thread on before the ball, and you tighten the lock nut against the bottom of the ball to lock it where you want it. Let me know if you need any help.
I too had a lot of metal filings. Seems to be okay now that I've had it on and off a few times.
I don't have a pattern, so it does not matter where mine stops, but I do put several layers of teflon tape on first to make it nice and snug as it tightens up, and I think it may act as a little of a damper.
I don't know if this will help you, but I just finished the same project you did. New threads are always tough. I ended up using one of my wifes rubber kitchen gloves to keep turning the **** because it kept slipping in my hand. Had no problem then lining up the shift pattern. Just don't tell my wife, O.K? :seeya :seeya :seeya :seeya
Another thing I noticed was the Kirban **** sat higher than the stock ****. So I bought a tap and a die and I threaded on about 1 or so inch extra threads and cut more threads up in to the ball. If you look in the ****, you will notice the threads dont go all the way to the top of the ****.
Thanks for the imput guys. My shift **** did not come with a lock nut. I will try the teflon tape or the tap to deepen the thread, this may allow me to turn the **** a half turn to get the pattern right. KwikBracr are you a fellow Rockfordian? I will look up your profile.
