I have a 1999 vette that I bought about a month ago and noticed that the balancer has a noticable wobble. It has been this way since I bought it. It did have a squeal but that has since gone. The origional owner had the balancer change prior to my purchase becuase of the noise. The noise came back shortly after replacement so I started looking into this issue and have seen all kinds of comments from pully delaminating to moving front to back etc. I took the belt off and was expecting to be able to move it back and fourth. To my suprise, no movement. The pully seems solid. Does any know if the pully's came from the factory with a wobble.
Yes, quite a few wobble from birth. The dealer won't change one out under warranty even if it wobbles more than 1/8 inch.
And, yes, OEM balancers do fail quite often on the Vettes. The two major fail modes are the bolt backing out, and the rubber delaminating and slipping.
I've read a lot of posts on this. Crazy how some wobble. How can that help balance engine and be wobbling? I have a 99 also and its rock solid steady. And I have read posts here where they change out the balancer with a new one it still wobbles!
