My, new to me, '99 FRC had the dealer fix for the dreaded column lock in 2004 at 13315 miles. I bought the Vette with 18650 miles on it last month. Can I still install a column lock bypass even though the dealer has already completed the recall work or would I be wasting my time and money? Thanks!
To install a CLB you need to remove what the dealer did inorder for the CLB to work properly. What should have been done to your 99FRC Mn6 is the purple wire splice in the passenger footwell. Behind the tow kick is the IP Fuse box and to the left of the IP fuse box is the BCM (large silver box). Above the BCM there should be a relay that has 5 wires going into the wiring base. 1 white, 1 green 1 purple and 2 orange. It will look like this:
Follow the purple wire back to a splice that looks non factory. It will look like this:
The relay is the Column Lock Relay and it must be bypassed. Remove the relay head from the wiring base and look into the head of the relay to see the pin numbers.
Identify the wire that went to pin 30 (should be a white wire) and identify the wire that went to pin 87 (one of the two orange wires). Make up a jumper and plug it into the wiring base so that the pin 30 wire and pin 87 wire are connected. It will look like this:
Tape up the jumper wire so that it cannot fall out and tie wrap the wiring base out of the way.
