I might be overly sensitive but I noticed yesterday and today that my 98 A4 43k car has started surging as I let off the gas to slow down. Something like lightly tapping the brakes over and over. It doesn't do it all the time (yet) just ocassionaly. No codes. Has anyone ever reported something like this?
See if there's any codes in the system. Might look at the pcv valve connection tube to the intake for holes in it. While you are right there, also look at the air bridge tube connection to the intake and insure it's not come off a hair letting in unmetered air.
good thought hadn't considered that it does feel that way now that you mention it. I will be checking fluid.
When it starts doing it, lightly tap the brake. This will unlock the convertor and maybe you will be able to tell if that is your problem. Good luck!!!
Another investigative clue would be does this happen at the exact MPH everytime? Does it align with your TCC Apply/Release MPH? If it does it frequently, it may br the Brake Stop Lamp switch (on brake pedal). The TCC releases when the brake pedal is pushed. If is out of adjustment, the TCC may be releasing frequently. To adjust the switch, grab the brake pedal and pull it up, all the way rearward. Hope that helps.
