My 99 died last Saturday. Wouldn't start, The DIC spouted jiberish and relays clicked and flashed then..... silence. Had it towed into the dealer( Van Chevrolet, Scottsdale, AZ) They found that the battery had cracked and spilled its guts and replaced it for $218. I have extended warranty, but they told me it wasn't covered (3 1/2 years old). (27K mi)
I now wonder what the warranty is on the original battery and why the digital info center now displays "change oil soon" continuously and won't reset.
Is this an issue covered by a TSB? Does anyone have knowledge or experience with the battery cracking and spilling? What about the DIC going goofy? Should I be liable for that since the battery isn't covered by warranty?
Thanks for your input!
The stock batteries in the C5s are very unreliable. Many owners have reported cracking and spilling acid all over the place.
Most vulnerable is the PCM and cable harness which is located beneath the battery. The acid eats the cables, shorts them etc.. resulting in a myriad of intermittent problems.
My advice is to remove all the acid , clean and inspect the wires and get rid of the Delco piece of crap and replace with an Optima battery.
The change oil soon message pops up if the oil life monotor becomes less than 10% if I remember correctly. CHange oil and reset by turning on the key but don't start and pumping the accelerator panel 3 times within a second. Turn key off and then start the car. Oil life on DIC should show 100%.
The DIC won't reset... I'm concerned since they tell me, the battery isn't covered by warrantee, SO the resulting wiring damage isn't either. Is this true?
