SO ... I'm driving along Montana Ave here in sunny Santa Monica today and came upon a driver who was clearly unsure of what he was doing. He was basically stopped in front of me pondering the meaning of life despite the shiny green light ahead of him. So I did what anyone in my position would do and I tapped the horn....which responded instantly...and continued to respond even when I had stopped touching it.
So there I am, in a freshly washed, gleaming yellow lowered ZO6, seemingly leaning on my horn for no apparent reason, with my wife trying to hide in the passenger side foot well.
Long story short, I had to pull over next to some boutique with a French name in order to fumble around under the hood looking for the fuse that, when found, wouldn't come out. Fortunately, however, a good samaritan from the crowd that had now gathered offered up a small pair of pliers from his pocket knife thereby enabling me to yank the fuse. Best part was when someone asked "is that a surcharges?" as I was shutting the hood.
Now for my question: Okay, maybe I was a.little over zealous with my tap but WTF??!!
I have an extended warranty but is this something I can fix on my own? I mean, I found the "Horn Membrane Fix!!" post, but that's talking about removing my airbag which concerns me a bit. Does anyone have a different solution or is that the only one?
I simply hit the horn too hard one too many times and this last time i think I broke the plastic paddles that press up against the membrane. I tried to fix it using the Horn Membrain Fix thread but the tork screws behind the steering wheel are really deep and my tork socket just won't fit. Whatever, I'll take it in as a warranty repair.
So, I must be old because my first thought at seeing the title was not about a Callaway CAI, or the horn...I thought it was the title of Jimmy Durante's autobiography....now when the responses come in with "who the heck is Jimmy Durante" I know I am old.
Your horn switch (membrane) is likely toast and needs to be either repaired or replaced. This happened to me last year; embarassing as hell and I almost had to fight a guy that was royally pi$$ed b/c he thought I was intentionally leaning on my horn at him. I had to get the idiot on the ground before I could explain to him that the horn was malfunctioning...
Also, if you don't want to repair yours, GM does not sell the horn switch separate from the airbag, so you're looking at $700+ for the unit... luckily ecklers does: http://www.ecklers.com/corvette-horn...l?dept_id=1717
Good luck
EDIT: Now that I read your thread I see you've already tried the repair... Did you buy an allen style torx key? That's what I ended up using...

Reason: I should really read threads before posting

Thanks, I appreciate the help. I'm going to take it in to the dealer for a warranty repair - although, if they say it's going to take a while before they can get to it, I'm going to take your advice and get a allen wrench torx key. I have the socket torx key, whick is too big and the other keys that I have are on a holder (like a pocket knife thing) and they don't reach.
