Odd Column Lock issue... Yes, read the sticky
Quick overview: Car stalled @ 2mph when attempting to leave the house two weeks ago (luckily!). The display read SERVICE COLUMN LOCK .... REMOVE KEY FOR 10 SECONDS, the column NEVER locked. I purchased and installed the CLB from corvettes of Huston. Problem wasn't fixed.
I found the K harness installed by someone on 5/28/04 with a huge 6-prong white tyco Relay. So the recall has been serviced. I also tested the battery, it was good. I installed the battery and tried driving the car immediately after battery install. The car drove FINE, while flashing "pull key 10 seconds... service column lock"???? Waited two hours and now the car will not move past 2 mph again.
I have turned the key to acc and listened for the relays in the passenger floor board click, they seem to be working correctly. I have also pulled/checked/reinstalled fuses 25 23 27 29.
Anyone know of what I should do next????
Replace the large Relay connected to the five wires that was under the column?? NO ONE can find the relay...

Are you really saying that no one has been able to follow the wiring harness from the connection under the column over to the relay?

Can you at least tell if a harness is connected under the column?
That K harness should not be in there anymore if you have the CLB...

AS I understand the way Chevy/GM handled the CL issue was by year and transmission type. I am assuming ( I know that's a dangerous thing) is you have a 2001. I don't know which tranny you have so I'll address the auto first.
AUTOMATIC
With the factory recall fix, here is what chevy did as I understand it:
1. Reprogrammed the fuel shutoff to 2 MPH
2. Removed the column lock plate.
3. installed a CLB using the K harness set up.
This fixed the CL issue most of the time, but this fix had its own issues.
When the K harness failed then the car thought the column was locked. Even though it didn't actually lock, because the locking plate had been removed. The fuel shutoff would shutoff fuel at any speed above 2 MPH.
To fix this problem here is what I think you need to do.
1. Ensure that the car actually thinks the column is unlocked. As long as the car thinks the column is locked the fuel shutoff limit will not let the car go over 2MPH.
Your after market CLB should have a harness (with instructions) that you plug into the cig lighter and retract the locking pin. The only reason you column is not locked, is because the plate was removed. Once the car believes that the column is unlocked, you need to back out the factory K harness and install a jumper in it place. There are threads that have this procedure and has pictures of the how and what pins to jumper. Once at that point you can install the aftermarket CLB and you should be good to go. The only thing now is the fuel shutoff is still set at 2 MPH. As long as your CLB is working you won't have a problem. If it fails and the car again believes the column is locked the fuel shutoff above 2 MPH will engage. The only fix for NOT engaging the fuel shutoff is to have the car reprogrammed to raise the fuel shutoff MPH limit to a speed that your wouldn't expect to ever exceed. Most have it raised to over 200 MPH and that solves the fuel shutoff problem. Even if the CLB fails now the car will still be drivable. You will get all the DIC warnings but you won't be stuck with an undriveable car. Just remember if you do reprogram the speed limit for fuel shutoff this will disable any the safety feature of any system that uses the fuel shutoff to prevent loss of control of the car. It is a safety feature.
A Chevy dealer will NOT perform this reprogramming because of the safety issues. Any one that has a tuner that can reprogram this feature should be able to change the MPH limit.
Note: You will more than likely need to pull certain fuses and reset the computer during your fix. Instructions are provided with the CLB on the proper procedures for installing the CLB and should always be followed. There are forum members on here who are experts and I think will readily provide advice if anyone has issues they can't solve.
Manual transmission:
Again as I understand it all chevy did was reprogram the fuel shutoff to engage at 2MPG and did not even address the CL issue for MN6 & MN12 transmission cars. If you have a CL issue on a manual the column will lock because the locking plate is still installed. Many say that you can unlock the column by turning the key on and rock the steering wheel hard and it can unlock steering column. This may or not make the car sense the column is unlocked, but many say this will only work once or twice. I installed a CLB before I had a problem. You will need to unlock the column BEFORE you install a aftermarket CLB. Installing the CLB will NOT unlock the column whether it is a auto or manual. The aftermarket CLB will usually have the harness for unlocking the column included with it. So I would think that that would be the easiest way.
This is a short discription of how I understand the issue. I hope gives you enought info to get yours fixed. good luck

If you have a tuner handy, reset the fuel cut off to 255 or what ever max allowed. You will still get the warning on the dic and you better have the lock plate non op also.
