No way cop actually used a radar, NO WAY! :bs :bs :bs
V1 (or any radar for that matter) would not have saved your azz in this case anyway, because you’d get a warning right as he’d be clocking you :( , but you would get a warning beep.

I assume this was a City of Duluth and not a Gwinnett County cop that pulled you.

It was a Suwanee cop. I had just entered the Suwanee limit about a mile or saw prior.
What was the offense on your plea for Nolo? If speeding, what was the delta between your cited speed and posted limit? Just wondering if I should drive back down and do this myself or pay an attorney $200-$300 to do it for me (assuming they can...)

I love your BS Meter! I'm gonna save that for later use if you don't mind. As far as him clocking me or not - I can't say as I wasn't in the car with him. What I can say is that if he did not clock me, he did a darn good job of estimating my speed, telling me that he got me at 69, with my DIC indicating 67. And I have no idea when he "observed" me but obviously know when I observed him and 100 or so feet later looked at my DIC. You all really have me wondering though as my V1 went off many times on all bands all the way back to Charlotte today... Mostly other people's detectors and door openers.
The fact is I was guilty, 55 or 45 zone - I was still speeding. And you're right, even if my V1 would have gone off, I'd still be meat on a hook. Instant on @ 1:45am with no one on the road but him and me leaves NO room for doubt. The scary part is that the V1 didn't go off. That really sucks - I don't know if I can trust it or not! And my wife's parents live in Suwanee (where we were headed) so I'm there quite a bit!

No problem, use away! :)

One more supporting evidence that he didn’t use radar. It’d be dead on (67 mph) if he did I believe.
BTW: Cops are trained at estimating speed visually, so it’s no surprise that he did :nonod:
Re: BUSTED!!! - V1 Owners Beware!! READ THIS (EuG)
Ya, is possible he was lying his AZZ off. Hard to know.
When I read the ticket it noted 'Stalker' and I read up on the Stalker radar gun and problems some detectors were having detecting it.
Tuff call, but the possibility of my old V1 not detecting that KA high band range commonly used down here made me change.
I do now get more reliable KA hits from a MUCH greater distance with my Escort 8500 and WAYYYY less false alarms.
FWIW.. Read up on the cops new radar gun and what KA band it uses.. Compare to what bands detectors can see.
The new V1 may be great, but they may be lying about how 'upgradable' the old V1 gear is or what the old V1's can detect.
Re: BUSTED!!! - V1 Owners Beware!! READ THIS (cgh1)
Sorry about your misfortune and I hope things work out for you... I'm not saying the cop was lying to you about clocking your speed but I have to think that your detector (police locator) would at least churp for a split second or so...
Re: BUSTED!!! - V1 Owners Beware!! READ THIS (luvinc5)
I own a Stalker radar gun and my V1 picks it up with no problem. The Stalker has a very narrow beam with its dual feed horn so it can be aimed at a specific object (car). I bought my V1 in 1997, & only got caught by instant-on Laser. There are other radar systems that operate on other bands used in Europe that are not legal in the USA.
Re: BUSTED!!! - V1 Owners Beware!! READ THIS (cgh1)
FYI, I've owned a few Genisis radar units and can say matter-of-factly that they, by far, are not the newest units on the block. The newer unit in the Genisis line is the Genesis II. At any rate, most Ka detectors should've been able to pick this up.
If you'd like to know more about the Genesis, do a search on google for Decatur Genesis.
Re: BUSTED!!! - V1 Owners Beware!! READ THIS (SPRGMAN)
I've been using a passive jammer for years and it definetly works...I've used every brand of detector on the market and had tickets with all of them..
Test after test after test has shown that those passive jammers don't do squat.
Chuck,
You have a witness in the car that your radar detector did not go off. That radar gun is supposed to be on a specific frequency as has been mentioned. If the detector didn't go off then 1 of 2 things happened (assuming the detector is in proper working order):
1) He never clocked you = BS ticket
2) His gun is faulty = BS ticket
The officer should have all of the information on that gun when he comes to the court date. When & where it was tested & certified/calibrated. What frequency it operates at, when it was built, model number, etc... I would think you would have a pretty decent case for dismissing the ticket.
Re: BUSTED!!! - V1 Owners Beware!! READ THIS (cgh1)
Sounds like a load of :bs from that officer. I got pulled over 4 weeks ago and the officer claimed he "clocked" me at 75mph and my V1 never went off. He put 75mph on the ticket BUT he did NOT check the Radar Box so I know he was full of it with the whole clocking story. I've got an attorney fighting my ticket right now.
Find a good attorney and have that bogus ticket thrown out! My V1 has NEVER let me down in picking up radar from cops who have it turned on.
Re: BUSTED!!! - V1 Owners Beware!! READ THIS (cgh1)
You were NOT clocked with radar. I had a very similar thing happen with me when I was using my old Bel radar detector. The state troopers are trained to be able to estimate your speed to within plus or minus 5 MPH by eye. (They are tested on it and if they cannot estimate to within 5 mph by eye, they fail the tests.) The trooper that pulled me over estimated my speed by eye and then tried to tell me that he got me with radar, which he DIDN'T. Also, they don't HAVE to show you the radar readout, contrary to popular opinion.
Re: BUSTED!!! - V1 Owners Beware!! READ THIS (EuG)
My "Highway Patrol Locator" unit, aka Beartracker, saved me this weekend on I-69. Signaled HP nearby, I slowed down, & a car wizzed by me going 85 mph. Just as he crested a hill aboout 200 yards ahead of me, instant-on Ka went off on my Passport, IN State Trooper pulled out & wrote him a ticket. If it hadn't been for the radio locator, he'd have gunned me for sure. Too bad the car following me decided not to take my cue by slowing down. I recommend getting some secondary warning system......IT WORKS!

That stop cost me 4 tickets from a psycho cop that wanted to throw me in jail. Reckless, Speeding, and 2 other BS tix. 14 pts in one stop.
This is one problem I have about driving in the USA. The LAW clams its reckless driving. But I drive 130 miles per hour at night with US spec head lights and about 145 to 165 MPH daylight for the past five years!!! NOT one close call, and feel very safe at the speeds I travel, I just cant believe we call 20 MPH over the speed limit witch is usually 55 to 75 MPH reckless driving. And on top of that you are treated just like a thief!!! Valentine are no Valentine this is BULL!!!
Re: BUSTED!!! - V1 Owners Beware!! READ THIS (Futch)
A few years back when I had my '97 Prelude, I was pulled over by a cop for 68 in a 55, but my V1 never made a peep. He said he used radar to clock me and I asked him, "Are you sure you used your radar?" He said that he did and I was so pissed off, I flat out called "bullsheet" on him and said I would see him in court, my V1 doesn't NOT pick up a K band signal. He seemed a bit agitated, but I could give a rat's ****. I told him that I hope as an officer of the law and a man of integrity that he wouldn't perjure(sp?) himself in court and I looked forward to seeing him there.
Guess what? I called the courthouse a few days later to set up my court date and they told me the ticket had been CANCELLED!!!! :D I was a happy camper.
Re: BUSTED!!! - V1 Owners Beware!! READ THIS (cgh1)
Hey I know a cop who works in Suwanee. I'll ask her what's up.. You got a name of this cop? Chances are she knows him.
My guess is he :bs you into confessing.
I would get a lawyer.
I got 6 tickets once in Cherokee, HWY 92 and they took me to jail, and impounded the car. Got a good lawyer, and every single ticket got dropped.
GET A LAWYER!!!!!!
Re: BUSTED!!! - V1 Owners Beware!! READ THIS (MelloYellow)
This happened to me as well 1 year ago with a FLA State Trooper using Stalker KA radar. I promptly DUMPED my V1 and bought the best KA detector on the market, the Escort 8500.
Too many similar stories about V1 is the reason I went with the 8500. I've used it for over a year now with no complaints.

I also love my Valentine One. Definately is a quality unit. The only times I have to be extra careful is when Mr Law is running his trap in a known false bogey area (near shopping centers, near traffic lights , etc) I try not to rely on my detector at night as Mr Law has the added drop of watching your lights come from miles away. That said, I also agree that the Valentine picks up radar and most likely the pinch you mention was not by radar. In California radar hits are not necessary as "pacing" is allowed in court. Good luck.
