Just put OBX headers on by myself on jackstands about a week ago. If doing on jack stands buy a creeper (I installed full exhaust). I bought the Craftsman high lift 3 tons jack stands, cheap and work great. On mine the drivers header went from the bottom (PITA) and pass slipped right in from the top. Drivers took me by myself a while, but the passengers side took ten mins once valve cover was off.
As far as the AIR system is concerned I just left the hoses alone and used block off plates on the headers. I plan on removing the whole AIR system when I put on my LS6 intake.
I would recommend a helping hand, would have saved me hours. I used my rear O2s in the front and spliced the front plug on the rear harness. I plan on having the rears tuned out and the AIR system tuned off when I have the car tuned after I put in my cam.
I would not have paid anyone to do this job based on the low level of difficulty, I have never installed headers and was able to do the job by myself, outside, on the ground in one day.
An extra car is handy when you realize you need bolts or another tool from the hardware store.
You will have a check engine light on if you don't connect the air system or the rear O2s, nothing serious.
59vetteFI, I think only the LG headers are made that way where the AIR hook-up is located between the 4th and 6th cylinder no matter what year car you have. The stock AIR tube fits between the 6 and 8cylinder. The AIR can be removed and I think there are some posts here that reference this. May want to do a search on this.
