I had a bad (shake the mirrors bad) vibration in my engine at about 3500rpm. I assumed that someone had put a clutch in the car at some point and didn't transfer the famous balance pins/weights. I figured that I would either end up having my rotating assembly balanced or buying a new short block.
Well guess what!? I just installed a new Monster Stage 2 clutch and flywheel over the Memorial Day weekend and my vibration is G-O-N-E! I am so stoked! The car revs so smooth now I love it! Not to mention the clutch feels great!
So...if you have a clutch of unknown origin and a vibration...the fix may be easier than you think!
Bye the way...I did not have the Monster checked for balance...no need to!
Oh yea, my wheels aren't really that color...its Photoshopped!
I had my Monster 3 checked for balance and it was off a little bit, but still within spec. I had it rebalanced anyway. Its only $75 to make sure its perfectly balanced and well worth it on any clutch to have it checked. The flywheel might be very close in balance but the PP will not be, but its good to have em both checked and marked.
Monster claims that their clutch assembly is balanced within 4 grams of either direction making it 8 grams unbalanced at most. well within the 12 grams specified by GM. It is possible that something happened to the stock clutch causing it to be unbalanced and that any new assembly would have fixed it up but to be fair, the new monster 2 in mine had no weights and no weights were transferred and there is zero vibration. So in my personal experience another internet fact has been born.
How is the clutch engagement compared to stock ?
Drivability compared to stock ?
Thanks !
Toque
Very close to stock. The pedal is right at 2-2 1/2" off the floor when engagement occurs, which is exactly correct. A tad bit more pedal pressure, but no big deal. Actual engagement is smooth, no sign of chatter and no noises or any other issues. Its a 100% different animal than the Level 3. That one is not good for the street in my opinion. Far too aggressive and you cant even think about slipping it as in normal driving instances. If you do, it glazes up and sounds like a wounded animal upon engagement. I changed from the Level 3 to the Level 2 and the car is a pleasure to drive again.
