I recently picked up a 2000 FRC from a member here on the forums. I flew in to pick the car up, and as I was driving it home, I noticed a loud popping sound coming from the rear of the car whenever I took off in first gear from a start...let the clutch out, roll about five feet, and "pop". I also noticed a similar sound as I came to a complete stop and the car rolled back a little.
I did some searching on here, and found the threads that suggest checking the tightness of the axle nut, and also lubing the axle splines. I have lubed both the inboard and outboard side of the splines, and tightened the nut and the sound still persists. I also tightened the sway bar nuts to spec (they were a bit loose), but that made no change either.
I'm going to drain and change the rear end fluid this weekend to see if that could be part of the problem. Anyone else have any other suggestions on things to check? Its not really much fun driving the car when it pops like hell every time I take off from a stop...
Had the same problem on my 2000 Vert, was the upper ball joint making the noise on mine, took quite a while the figure that one out, on mine it was under warranty at the time and the ball joint assembly was replaced on my right rear.
