I'm new to this forum, but have already had some great advice!
I bought a 2002 Z51 recently. Searched the forums and the internet, but I can't really understand what makes the Z51 package different. Can anyone provide some background?
Also, if I am making upgrades (suspensions, etc.) what do I need to know before changing any components if I chance to lose one of these special Z51 performance parts?
You get the Z06 front spring and rear bar. The rear spring and front bar are softer than the Z06 but stiffer than base. Like mentioned above, you get better shocks than base too. You also get a power steering cooler and I think you have to get the performance rear axle ratio on an automatic if you get a Z51.

One of the items that is standard to Z51 equipped cars is a HD (important) version of a power steering fluid cooler. More specifically, it has a row of cooling fins on the tube, instead of just a "U" shaped metal pipe of the standard cooler that ALL C5s have. Easy to see. Pop the hood and it's mounted directly above the steering rack assembly. On some C5s the Z51 type items was standard equipment.
