Default My experience at COW

Well lets see...where do i begin. Well, lets start off with this. 2 years ago i had a company do headers, tune,..ect...normal bolt on stuff. After it was done My 01 coupe ran fine...but i felt it was lacking something...it just wasnt right. The guy who ran the tune didnt tell me what he did to it, or changed or if i should be aware of anything or better yet take me for a ride and show me what hes changing. After i left and went back home...maybe a week or 2 later I started getting a bad sulfer smell from the exhaust when getting on it...which was really ANNOYING and quite embarrasing considering im driving a vehicle with 63k on her. So i took it to someone else. They also ran another check with the tune, and even dyno'd it 3 times. The mechanic and tuner there said the car was fine...and didnt need anything. But still....the car just wasnt right...i go in other peoples C5s and its just different...performance wise and there roughly running the same mods...just little bold ons here and there. So that leads me to where i ended up just this past tues. I met chuck and he ran his computer through the car and looked at the tune.......WOW was it off. There was only 8 or 9 things modified and even at that the tables were all off. The car was running to lean, the throttle response wasnt touched at all, the maf tables were "messed with"...so on and so forth. So with that being said that started the process of re-tuning the car all over again for the 3rd time. He took it out 3 times with me in it, talking to me about what is going on and showing me on the computer the cars reaction to everything that hes doing. He even was able to point out a few little things going on with it that need looking into that had nothing to do with the tuning at all. So once that was all done i drove back home.
Well...Its been a week now and all i can say is....HOLY CRAP!! Its like a new vehicle. The throttle response is so precise...its takin me a few times to get used to it again..lol. The pull that i have in 4th gear is unreal.....nothing like what i had before. The driveablilty is a spot on and gas mileage didnt get effected whatsoever...it actually improved a bit. The 2 hour drive on the highway in 6th doing 80-85 i was averaging 33-34mpg. My hats off to all the guys down at corvettes of weschester...esp CHUCK. He talks to you like a human being regardless of what your having a prob with. I cant thank him enough for finally getting my 01 coupe in the range of performance that i was looking for. Thanks again chuck and hope to do more buisness with you and your guys in the future!!

I had several people tune my C6 after I installed, headers, VARARAM and a ported TB. The car ran GREAT but was very rich. The Fuel Economy went to hell so I knew it was rich.
I went to a dyno day and was pretty embarrassed when I saw Knock Retard thru out the rpm band and only got 360 HP.

On a chance, I talked to Chuck and he said, BRING ME YOUR CAR!

MAN,,, I'm so glad that I did.

Blackout

My story is SO MUCH LIKE YOURS! Chuck took the car on the road and had me me drive it, After three road sessions, the car was a WHOLE DIFFERENT BEAST! The throttle response was SIGNIFICANTLY improved and it had a lot more power!

When my wife drove the car home, her exact expression after doing the highway on ramp sprint was. HOLY S*%$!!

Like you,,,, our highway mileage went from 23-24 to 28-29!!

Chucks mechanics treated my car like it was theirs and are very competent!

Chuck is GOLD in my book! I couldn't ask for a better tuner who understands the customers needs and the engines requirements!

Yea, chuck and his crew treated my car like it was there own as well...and even told me a few mods that i could do to it in the future to improve the handleing of it. Once again....chuck saves the day!!

Yep...you hear plenty of stories on here of tuners and shops that people are disappointed with so how about one that is hands down AWESOME!...I can't say enough good words about Chuck@Corvettes of Westchester (C.O.W). I do not and will not trust my vettes tuning with anybody other then him...PERIOD. So no matter what my next upgrades are...the car, one way or the other, will be going back to him for all my tuning and future "go fast" needs. Considering Iam almost 1000 miles away...that alone shows how great a person and tuner this man is. If you have a car that needs help, don't think..."hmmmm I could go to my local shop cause they are closer"...just give Chuck a call. Trust me and many others who have had to spend money twice over and gone through multiple tunes...if you went to Chuck to begin with you would of saved yourself the time, money, and headaches.

Regarding "tuners". Do you know what they call the guy who finishes last in medical school?................................. .................DOCTOR!

So, be ware of people who call themselves "tuners". You never know how good they are until they provide a service for you. We are fortunate to have Mike Yeager in Greenville, SC! He and his team are great and I highly recommend him as well.

just currious, do you have or did he use a wideband with his tune?

but I see you just have bolt ons so I don't think it really matters

He did use a wide band on my car. I have headers and it had a spare bung for a wide band. Chuck uses a wide band on every car that I have seen him tune. You need to contact him to ask him where he installs the WB on cars with out the spare bung. He will explain it to you. Most likely uses one of the rear O2 sensor bungs but, Im just guessing

Its important to use a wide band for ANY tune to get an accurate closed loop AFR and PE AFR. Cant see why you would say "but I see you just have bolt ons so I don't think it really matters" because it does!!! Thats why some tuners give you a half *** tune, because they think it doesnt matter. IT DOES for an accurate tune that gives you power, torque and efficiency!

I'll let Chuck chime in about placement of the wideband should you not have an extra bung port, but Bill hit this one right on the head. YES absolutely a wide band is necessary for every tune even for just bolt on mods such as headers and I agree...Chuck installs a wide band in the correct location (IE....NOT IN THE TAILPIPE!) to get correct readings. I have an LC wide band with gauge hooked up to my car so it saved Chuck the hassle of having to run one in my car but as pointed out...YES he does temporarily install one in every car he tunes.
