i have a '98 a4. the only mods are a vortex rammer, mat relocate sensor and 160 deg. therm. with the cat in gear at a dead stop it idles rough. it kinda feels like a bogging or grunting noise or like it is trying to move. it doesn't idle high or to low. it done this before any of the mods but seems worse now. also, it seems to do it more when the a/c is on or if i stop somewhere and leave it running in park. any help will be greatly appreciated. thanks.
I am running a 98 A4 and have had that problem before as well...My question for you is how many miles do you have? I have 35000 myself and have replaced the pvc as well as plugs and wires along with my other mods, went back and did a pcm relearn and have seen a much smoother idle...I think the idle has to do with the cars coming rich from the factory, 97-98s especially...Hope this helps ya..
My Car Idled rough for 3 years... I :cry at the dealerships for over a year trying to get them to fix it... Finally, real Shop found my problem within 2 min... It was a bad coil... Replaced the Coil and the Car runs like a champ!! :)
My 2000 was just in for rough idle. I was told the idle was in check and no codes came up. I am very mechanical and this can't be right, the entire car shakes a bit.
Loud Mouth, my car didnt throw codes either, it too shook and had an intermitant miss. Like I said it turned out to be the #7 coil... a $20 inductive pickup light caught it right away... I wish the 3 dealerships I want to had one of those. It would have saved me years of aggrivation. :bs
I also have to add that I changed the plugs and wires twice hoping that was the problem... :(
