AC compressor question.

AC compressor question.
Guys,
I purchased an AC compressor and the shop that is doing the work says that there is something wrong with it. The compressor doesn't spin by hand. I was told by the company that I bought it from that this is normal and to install it and let the belt break it loose. Does anyone have any experience if this is normal or not? My Vette shop had another new compressor and it was stiff but was able to spin by hand.
My car is a TTiX car so getting to the compressor is kind of a PITA so I dont want to have to pay for another R&R if the compressor is bad. Please let me know any opinions.

sounds like it may have gotten moisture in it during storage or something. perhaps it was stored witout any oil in it. what brand is it? make sure they put a delphi in there. most of the other ones are junk. also dont get a rebuilt one. im pretty sure i recall turning my delphi unit before i installed it.
