Default Overheating Slowly

So my car has recently started overheating very slowly in stop and go traffic. When I am traveling down the highway it runs around 195. But once I stop, after about 20 min of being in traffic, it slowly starts to climb up to the point where it overheats. It has all new coolant in there and it is burped. Radiator is clean of debris. Could it be a thermostat?

Any ideas on this as I am stumped. Thanks.

Are the fans coming on? Start the car and turn on the A/C. Both fans should operate.

Does it OVERHEAT (boil over, warning messages on the dash,...) or does the temp just go up to where the fans kick on?

check your reservoir tank. If you have a small leak and the fluid is low it can cause this.

The fans are coming on. It never says it is over heating but it goes up to about 252 and then the AC is no longer that cold at that temp.

You may want to check or do the following:
1. Replace the pressure/radiator cap.
2. Check or replace the hoses.
3. Check or replace the thermostat.
4. Clean the area between the A/C and radiator...check for debris.
5. Do a full system flush and replace with 50/50 blend of DexCool & distilled water.
6. Check and make sure the fans run with the A/C on. (fuse or relay)

Check the above......

After you diag. The problem you might want to install a temp
control for the fan. I installed a derale unit it was
under 30.00 and only a couple of wires. I adjusted it to turn low speed fans on at 200 degrees . Works great the car doesnt go much over 200 degrees.

I had an issue with slow coolant loss that caused similar symptoms. I found a small crack in the plastic tube on top of the coolant resevior tank that the rubber hose connects to (leak was under the hose and coolant was dripping out). Not sure if this is a common failure, but I thought I would mention it.
