Ok, my pressure sensor died and was pegged at the highest reading. I decide to forego the Oil Pressure Relocation.. I bit the bullet an went the standard route..
Pulled the intake.. cleaned up while in there.. Also I replaced the Intake Manifold Gaskets with a new set from Felpro ($21 at Autozone)
Put it all back together and change the oil.. Start it up.. I have very little pressure.. like 5lbs..
Take it for a drive and it goes to about 22lbs.. At wot it got to about 39ish.. As soon as I come back to idle it sets off the DIC with errors.. Oil Pressure Low like 5lbs
i did the relocation mod... and it was very easy and worked like a charm.... but i wish i hadn't. I felt dirty afterward like i cheated, i will not cut my car again for a short cut
Couldn't be that you bought it off of Ebay...has to be that cheap aluminum metal!
Hey Eric,
Unfortunately, GM did have a run of bad replacement sensors for some time. The replacements were made of aluminum, so that's where the association came from. Considering what is required to change the sensor, few guys elected to take the bad sensor back to the dealership parts department, and instead....ate the $60, and purchased aftermarket...Borg Warner, etc. As a result, GM had very little visibility of the bad sensors, and no initiative was enacted to quarantine the lot of material.
Went for a ride tonight. Forthe first 10 minutes we had about 20 psi at idle and 30 at 2000 rpms. Then it dropped and dropped and set off the dic alarm. MFer!
Then parked the car went for a bite. Again it came back for a little then dies out.
That chime is maddening! It was better with the old sensor that read te highest reading and does not set off the errors. I need to fix this again!

Sounds like you did the cut a hole in the cowl method, not the relocation method. There's a big difference.

Soooo what sensor can I rely on this time?????
Well, since you've got to go back in there, why not go with a relocation kit?
I just installed one from WCC-so next time it'll be a ten minute job.
The WCC unit also comes with a brass Buick sending unit-not sure if they're any better, but the one I just installed works like a charm...
You might think about changing the pass. side air check valve while you're in there - "fortunately" for me,the air check valve started throwing codes a week before the oil pressure sending unit took a dump,so I did them both @ the same time-air check valve is like ten bucks or so,and a ***** to change without pulling the intake.
I also got a oil pressure sensor from O'Reillys that is used in Nascar (not sure what brand, but i think it's Borg Warner). Mine is working fine now and did not go with the cutting of the cowl. I went the long route and disconnected all the wiring, coolant lines to the throtle body and moved the intake out. I did keep the fuel line connected and just moved the intake over to the drivers side carefully. The thing that I forgot was putting the straw hose in back of the intake and kept getting a code. I had to take the whole intake off 3 times until I figured it out. If I ever have to change the oil pressure sensor again, I can do it very quickly now. Plus it allowed me to clean under the intake for excessive blowby.
Soooo.. Are all the aluminum ones bad? Where can I go to get a Reliable one? :
No, they are not. I replaced mine 2 years ago, with an aluminum one....still going strong. Reality....you purchased yours from ebay. Which means someone probably bought them at a dealer auction(as is) for pennies on the dollar......because the dealer could not sell them. If a factory replacement scares you, then pick up a Borg Warner from Autozone, Advance, etc.
