Default Sparco steering wheel install

I installed a sparco steering wheel on a sparco hub. The hub slightly rubs the plastic housing, what can I do about it? Also the steering wheel is too far back and I'd like to get it closer to me by installing a quick release. Which one is good? I was looking for a sparco but cant find it anymore? Planning on trying on NRG 2.5 quick release, anyone have any experience with this?

The hub will grind down the plastic, you could sand it down if you want.

so just a verbal update.

I got the NRG 2.5 quick release and installed it. Went incredibly smoothly and absolutely no play in quick release. Very satisfied with product, and the price was right at 120 vs sparco over 300.

This quick release is approximately 2.5" deep and it put the steering wheel in a perfect position as before it was way too far away from me and I was driving with my arms practically locked out. The horn works and I bypassed the airbag so I dont get a dash light.

Miso happy

I used the sparco hub, it was around $70.. reasonably priced.
One thing I wish I would have done is removed a little bit of material with a drill press so the horn wire would clear better, but alas I havent a drill press. Also I should have used some sand paper to thin out the inside of the column enclosure.. because currently the hub rubs on it, but every time I make a turn I get a little more clearance

Any chance you could post a full list of the parts, part numbers and where you got them from? I'd love to do this next winter. Thanks.

Got most parts from amazon.com
sparco steering wheel hub. lists for jeep but also works on gm.
sparco 383 suede steering wheel. universal.
nrg ver 2.5 quick release hub. universal. (dont see any problems using any other of their quick releases)
2 ohm 5 watt resistor also from amazon.
extra clock spring from vette nuts so you can cut off the connector and solder in the resistor to simulate airbag.
female and male insulated spade terminals from radio shack to crimp to wires and make horn work
beer

Default removing factory steering wheel

can you also post how you took out the factory steering wheel (with details if possible, like tools to use, etc) and especially how you disabled the airbag; that is a cool looking setup you got there!

there are diy posts, but i can give a quick description
remove center console
remove knee bolster
remove airbag by unscrewing 2 torx screws on the back of airbag
remove steering wheel with steering wheel puller
remove steering column shroud
remove clock spring you wont need it anymore
plug in your fabricated airbag bypass connector by fabricating it from a clock spring connector that you cut off and soldered the resistor to (either use yours or purchase extra.
install hub
install quick release
wire up horn to quick release
install steering wheel
wire up horn button
beer
cigarette
enjoy!
