All the scan tools listed are BETTER than the 9180. As long as the one that you purchase reads body codes, O2 sensors and live sensor data; your all set.
New plugs (AC-Delco Iridium) and new wires (GMPP) are installed. Upon further investigation last week, I noticed my foam Vararam filter was disintegrating (falling apart and had some holes in it!) and in dire need of replacement. I ordered a new green filter from Vararam and it should be here Wednesday. In the mean time I am cleaning as much as I can. The MAF sensor looks pretty good, but I got some MAF cleaner and will clean it as well. Hopefully this will have her running great again...and hopefully it's not an O2 sensor problem.
Also, always change your Oil before a Smog Test. 4yrs ago my M3 failed, changed Oil and it passed. Just passed again last Saturday with 197K on it. I have a shop, doesn't look closely at the cars mods, but tests it - which is how it should be.
After the tune up and new air filter my car still didn't pass. In fact the HC's and NO was even worse.....
Well, looks like Charlie at RPM wins the contest. I replaced my cats with new high-flows and literally went next door to the smog shop (not even a test drive) and it passed. I didn't realize that high flow cats don't last very long.
Good thing is my car is freshly tuned up and running new cats. Good to go for the next couple of years!
