Default Difference in LS6 headbolts

I have an LS6 engine from an uknown donor. I am replacing the head gaskets. It has 10 long bolts in the valve spring area, 5 bolts about 1" shorter on the exhaust manifold side, and 5 short (3") on the intake side.

Which bolts do I buy? 98-03 or 04?

You need ALL new head bolts! There ALL ONE TIME USE (TORQUE TO YEILD) BOLTS!! The torque for the small bolts is DIFFERENT than the large bolts. USE THE DETAILED TORQUE PROCEDURE in the service manual!

WARNING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! MAKE ABSOLUTY POSITIVELY SURE that there is NO, NADA, NONE, coolant or moisture inside the head bolt holes!!!!!

They are BLIND HOLES and if theres liquid in the holes, you will rupture the block when you torque in the bolts!!!!!!

INSPECT, very carefully!

I use ARP head studs! ABSOLUTY outstanding and completly reuseable!

The 1997- early 2003 11mm head bolts are different lengths. The late 2003 & up 11mm head bolts are the same length.

So you need the early head bolts.

That's a very unique block you have.

Every LS1/LS6 I've seen only has 5 head bolts under the valve cover, 5 near the exhaust manifold, and 5 on the intake side. Yours somehow has 10 under the valve cover. Congrats!

Thanks Bill. I am going to roll the block over with the engine stand to help the drainage and THEN check the holes.
