Tork converter makes the trans over heat, it could be low like lucky said but if the converter dose not lock up it is all ways slipping, you should have a much bigger trans cooler if you run any type of stall.
Edit I thought you had a stall converter, so most likely low on fluid, but is still good to have a trans cooler. If you do a lot of stop and go and hot out and air on it will get hot,how hot is the engine getting?

Thats too hot ask me how i know.. If you look for my previous posts i have a writeup on installing trans cooler temps will stay below 180 even racing. You would be wise to change your fluid, operating temps above 180 will burn transmission fluid and will contaminate clutchpacks. remember after you have flushed and refilled drive it than go back and have them top off. I toasted my stage 6 bcz i thought they had went back and checked after driving. Goodluck And if you have any questions PM me
Does a slipping torque converter cause the transmission to run hot 235deg or does a transmission running hot cause the torque converter to slip?
The majority of the heat generated, in any automatic transmission, is from the torque converter.
Fluid coupling of the vanes, within the converter, generates heat as a result of friction. This effect will be much greater when the torque converter clutch is in the unlocked state.
A slipping torque converter clutch, in the lock-up state, will also generate additional heat.
