So if i Torque the ARP Bolt To the specified 245lbs (i called them and they told me with red locktight to torque their bolt to 245lbs)... will it loosen???????? i wasnt planning on pinning the crank since im not supercharging
The guy at ATI told me to only torque to 100 Ft #'s but I went to 240 anyway with red loctite. I cut a belt and wrapped the balancer then used a ridge strap wrench to hold the balancer while torquing the ARP bolt as suggested. It worked great.

This is a foolish plan, there are plenty of stock cars that are not S/C that loosen the balancer bolt that were torqued the factory spec by GM.
It's really nothing to pin the crank and never have to worry again and you don't need to torque the ARP bolt past 100lbs ft.

OK so maybe you sold me on pinning the crank... i want this motor built right by anyones standards... What Pin kit do ya'll recomend?
Try a PM to Bluvette1 on this forum. His kit is one you can use over and over because of the hardened drill guide. It comes with drilling collar, 2 pins [.250], drill bit marked for correct depth, and the bolt to hold it in place. I bought one and it is first class!! It was also cheaper than most of the other kits, but I don't know why. Good Luck, Rod

And you might want to look at putting on a two piece timing cover. It has a top half and bottom half. That way if you ever want to change the cam again you don't have to remove the balancer again. Makes the job much easier.

Yeah I saw those two peice covers online, they seem sick. They are priced on the premium end though but defidently a good idea
