Default Rocks in a can
I know that the "rocks in a can" sound coming from the clutch area is somewhat "normal?"......but exactly what is causing it?

I've read (here on the forum) that it has something to do with Slip fit stuff, wear on pilot bushing, etc. etc. but nothing definitive.......I forgot to mention that it only happens when I start off in first gear and quickly disappears.........does anyone have the same problem and could anyone offer any suggestions .........car has 67,000 miles

The sound is not an issue unless you have an A4.

The only ways I know to make it go away are 1) depress the clutch or 2) turn up the radio volume.

Can't have anything to do with wear/mileage. I've driven near-new C5 manuals and they all had it.

Also noticed it on multiple C5's including mine. Always heard that it's normal. I'd also be interested in knowing the cause...

I was gonna ask WTH an A4's got to do with the subject, too. On another note, my '02Z has never made this noise, not even with a new clutch.
