Default How to fix C1226 trouble code

Hello. My 98 vert started showing Service Traction Control & Service Anti lock brakes. Based on advice provided by forum members I took a look at my codes. I had two, C1222 H and C1226 H. I reset the codes last night and took it out for another drive. The same warnings came up. I looked to see if any new codes came up. C1226 H returned which is LF excessive wheel speed variation.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to address this issue. I will be sending away for the service manual today. I can see how I will need it going forward but any suggestions will be appreciated. I will also be cleaning the ground connectors on the front frame rails today just as a precaution but since this same code has come up several times nows I'm thinking something needs fixing. Thanks.

8VETTE7, thanks for the reply. Can you elaborate? I assume I have to remove the wheel first. Then what do I look for? Where is the connector located? What does it look like? Any additional info would be appreciated.

You are going to need a DMM to troubleshoot this problem. The service manual will take you through it step by step.

C1226 is in fact RF most lists get that wrong if you look at the list you will see it goes LRLRLR UNTIL C1225 & 6.

Check the female pins each end of the wheel harness. They get saggy.

Thanks for the tip on the code being for the right front. I'll be pulling the wheel and taking a look Thursday. I'll let everyone know what I find.

I have the same code. It only occurs when the car is cold and I make a really sharp turn. Once I do that the code will pop up 8 out of 10 times.

Since all the sensors are the same, try swapping your fronts and see if the problem follows.

Having the same problem with my car.. I'm about to pull the trigger on the front speed sensor harnesses as that my research shows is the most likely cause of the intermittent faults 1225/6 which is what I keep getting. ONLY when its cold outside which indicates poor contact somewhere I believe. Harnesses aren't too bad cost wise. I've heard LOTS of guys replacing front hubs and it not fixing this so don't be quick to pull the trigger for the front hubs which suck to replace.

What do you think the odds are that both RF & LF harnesses would go bad at the same time?

Thanks for chiming in. Anything is possible. If I'm not mistaken the 1225 and 1226 codes refer to each side of the car LF and RF, I get randomly either code when the light triggers with no rhyme or reason to it. The car has 100k on it, I've read about all the information one can find on the issue and to me it seems like I either have an internal ABS module fault like a cracked solder joint somewhere or the harness or harnesses have a similar issue. I'm relatively new to the car so this issue could have been developing for some time.
Again thanks for your thoughts, which seem more of a mockery but thats ok.

Steve, I don't intend to mock you. If we were chatting face to face it would be easy to tell. Typing and reading on the internet it's much harder.
I'm glad you've considered the likelihood of both failing at once. As you say, anything is possible.
For an additional data point I have a 1243 code and my ABS & Traction Control lights consistently come on when I start the car. I'll pull the module one of these days and open it up. Maybe I'll get lucky and can reflow some solder joints. Doubtful, since ABS Fixer can't repair them but you never know.
Cheers
