I live in a twisty state, so I have never actually had my vette over about 150. and know that the 01's were geared for 170's so to my question
is 6th gear usable at all? I was thinking not but am not sure.
I am thinking about going with 3:90 or 4:11 gears and wondered if 6th gear would even be the slightest bit usable.
i know there is the whole "you don't need to go that fast" blah blah. thing. but if i ever decided to do a texas mile, or the like. it would be nice to know i wouldn't get limited by gearing.
reading problems. i stated, Texas mile, east coast timing association (in NC) and other places, stating i live in a curvy area. means there are no airports, and no race tracks where i can hit those speeds, or salt flats. Just keeping my options open.
It's obvious you can't answer my question and are just here to waste my time.
I don't think adding something like a 3:90-4:10 is always a win-win. Tremec 6 spds come with a pretty tall first gear, so you won't spend much time before having to shift, with higher (numerically) gears. That said, I would think it would make 6th more usable for events like you stated, because you won't run out of RPMs in 6th with just about any gear. The question is how high the motor will push the car against the air.
After running the Mojave Mile I can testify that 6th gear did not increase my MPH. With a M12 trans and 3.42 gears I just maintained my 169.9 MPH for the last 200 yards or so (real estate is going by quickly at that speed)!
This was with 466 RWHP. YMMV
I am building a 4.10 so we will see if that make a difference in September.
If you do a search on the CF for Mojave Mile, Joel has posted a video of his 203 MPH run, but he is at 860+.
Very interesting atleast it's keeping speed and not losing it. Thanks for the awesome replies.. i can't wait for septembers results
. ... I should be around the same HP numbers. maybe a few less but close.
