I want to clean the ground under the hood, driver side, and I can't get it to release. I've tried pushing the tabs down with fingers and screwdrivers but it won't go low enough under the housing to release both tabs. Are there any tricks to getting this off? Any ideas would be a great help.
REMOVE THE connector from the ground post!
Just insert a tweeker screwdriver under the plastic cover at each latch and snap a vise grip on to the metal ground tab. Grab the connector body and pull and wiggle. IT WILL POP OFF!
I cleaned and dialectric greased ALL of my grounds about two months ago.
In the picture above, you will see a loop with a lock lug just above the screwdriver blade end. I got mine to release by inserting a very small screwdriver into the loop and gently prying. There are two locks at opposite sides. You may have to release one, hold it open then release the other. Use a screwdriver with about a 1/8" wide blade or smaller to fit under the loops.
For me, the set of grounds on the driverside door hinge area was the most difficult to unbolt and to re bolt.
I got it off and it was pretty clean for a 97, no corrosion. I sprayed it with some Corrosion X and put it back together. I just shoved the screwdriver way down there and got the housing to pop off. My prob was I was focusing more on pushing the tab down instead of raising the housing over the tab. I don't even think the tab goes down anyway. Thanks for the help.
