Hey all, I've had the Pfadt Poly A-arm bushing kit installed and pressed in but I ran into somewhat of a dilemma with the front upper A-arms in that the kit came with some washers and a C-clip for the inside part of the bushing. But there are 2 different kinds of washers, one with a perfect circle on the inside lip, and then a set with a beveled straight part. I do not know which should be used and why there are 2 different kinds of washers with the set??
I did try to reach Pfadt Directly but couldn't get anybody to contact me back.
Here are some pics for clarification:
The washers and instructions:
One set with the flat side and one normal set of washers:
Hey enigma! Be sure to use the D Shaped washers that are supplied with the kit. It's not unusual to have both sets of washers packaged, but please use the D Shaped washers, they prevent the washer from rotating relative to the pin.
If you have any more questions please let us know! I'll be keeping an eye out on this thread, and you can reach us at 1-888-972-2464 or info@pfadtracing.com.
Thanks for the response! Now im having another issue with the install. I've PM'd you this info but figured a member might have a answer as well.
On the rear lower control arm, on the mount that is closest to the front of the car, the bushing is sticking out 1/8'' too far and will not fit in the car. I looked at the instructions and it told me to remove material from the inside face, and me thinking about it thought it was a 2 piece bushing so I was going to remove the material from the inner part of the inside piece. Well as it turns out its a 1 piece bushing so now I have no idea which side to take the material off of. It sticks out so far the 2 metal hat washers do not touch on the inside where the bolt goes.
Here are pictures for reference:
here is the other side that has the same amount that needs to be taken off but its not pressed in as far so the gap is equal on each side of the bushing, you can tell its not snug though,
Please let me know what is suppose to be done as I dont want to start hacking away at the bushings and screw something up. My inclination was to remove the 1/8'' material from the tapered side only.
Received an email from Pfadt directly and it looks like this is a rare issue with my arms in that the holes have a very small diameter which pushes the bushing out. The bushing must be pressed out and cut down the middle and the excess material removed from the new middle surface so as to keep the outside parts that meet the hat washers in tact. I'll snap some pics for anybody who has this issue in the future.
Had this problem over a year ago with 2nd generation Pfadt Bushings. You're better off cutting (splittng) the bushing in the centers and then grinding down the inner edges until you get a proper fit. One piece bushings don't work well with OEM variances.
