Hi everyone just installed a set of XSpower LT headers and the whole system, i connected the battery back and i get a single click from the solenoid but no start, i checked the wires to the starter and they are as tight as can possibly be. I had the battery disconnected during the installation and then tried the battery charger thinking it was the battery, it wasn't. i also checked the pellet on the key and cleaned it and tried once again no start just a single click. i was having intermittent starting issues before but i attributed to a bad battery do you guys think my starter has bitten the dust or what? any help would be appreciated as i dont want to rip half the exhaust system off again.
Start by making sure that everything is hooked up. Alternator, coils, all the sensors etc. Did you have to remove the starter to install the headers, you may not have gotten all of the wires rehooked back to it. Also check your fuses just in case.
i did have to remove the starter and i reinstalled it, there were only 4 wires going to it and i reinstalled them all. There was and issue when i was tightening the large bolt on the starter i felt the solenoid piece move like it was loose from the starter. i did check all the wires and they are all connected i have not checked all of the fuses but i gave them a quick look and they looked okay, the thing that is really making me think its the starter is the single click then nothing
What about the ground wire on the driver side of the car? If that was broken or taken off, you need to get that fixed. It looks like a metal/steel braided wire. Just an idea to look at.
when my starter began to loose life it did this... give the starter a good smack with a hammer and try and start it, worked for me to get it to the shop lol
Sounds like you have a solenoid issue.. When you turn the KEY to START,, do you get battery voltage on the PURPLE wire (small wire on the outside terminal?
Is the small BLACK GROUND wire properly attached to the block ground (G-106)??? The main battery ground wire must be there cause the starter solenoid clicks.
the wires on the starter do not have to be in that order correct? like i mean the red one dosent have to be on top also i installed the new starter and so far same problem just a single click this time however i did have my spark plugs wires disconnected from the coils would that cause a no start? i figures i would hear it at lease trying to turn over
UPDATE: pluged the spark plug wires in and tried it started once with a grind from the starter now it will not start again
Final Update Got the Car running Finally dont know exactly the problem was i just went around check all my wires and re-tightening them i think it will be a good idea to replace the main battery cables and i have one more issue my new starter Grinds Really bad when start up any ideas?

Starter should not grind, so are you sure it is mounted and installed flush? Question you need to ask...did the car start up fine before the install? A bad plug or plug wire would not prevent it from starting. A ground yes, bad starter yes, it has to be something you failed to connect properly. That is, if you answered yes to my first question.
I would check that the starter is mounted flush, but you could have gotten a bad starter from the parts store as most of them are refurbished. Just a thought. Good Luck with it.
Well i checked all my grounds over again and they appear to be fine. the positive side of my battery cable looks like its coming apart. A new problem has occurred now every time i switch the car from MPH-KPH it does not stay that way. I hope it is because of my battery cable, As for the starter i forgot to mention that the block is missing a chunk where one of the starter bolts would go. I believe the previous owner made the mistake of leaving the starter hanging and then it cracked, So that i have to fix that somehow

Actually, that's more symptomatic, of a bigger previous issue....i.e. hydrolock.....
this just gets more and more frustrating any tell tale signs for a hydrolocked motor? i've had a car hydrolock on me before but that resulting in the insurance company swiftly writing it off as irreparable mind you this was in canada and my corvette is an american car...... any ideas on how to "fix" the mounting issue?
Hows this for LUCK! I bet your block looks like this:
My #1 cylinder head casting had a pin hole in the casting and filled the intake runner up with coolant. When the valve opened, it hydro-locked #1 cylinder during cranking and you see the result:
I disassembled the engine down to that head and did not see any additional damage
I later reassembled the engine, pop started it and ran the engine thru it paces! Didn't miss a beat! She is injured but NOT DOWN!
So,, sometime this month, I will have mine fixed. I have the broken piece and will tig weld it back in. The block is 316 aluminum alloy.
As soon as I can find a qualified person that I trust to lay hands on my engine with that Miller SYNCHROWAVE 200 that I borrowed,, I will be back in business!
i wish i still had the piece and mine is much more centerd as in right down the middle of the bolt section im at a loss as to what to do. i knew i was going to have issues buying a car with 150 000 miles but i did not expect this. still i must admit this is the best car ive ever driven and do enjoy most repairs/modifications
Well,,,, if mine were in that state of disrepair/damage, I would CUT OFF the damaged area, purchase some 316 material, have it machined to the same size as the block piece and have someone V out the joint and then TIG it to the OEM block piece. File the BOTTOM of the forging / repaired area flat. Then install the starter and use the starter hole as a drill guide to drill a hole and then TAP the top of the hole.... BAM,, your back on the road!
IF,,,,, your welder is good,,, he can weld build up the damaged area with a TIG welder and then all you need to do is drill and tap.
