To Whom, My 2004 was sitin for 4 weeks & the original battery is dead. I charged it but i noticed that th info ( tire pressure/mile range etc)was comming on & off)planed to take for ride today. If the battery is dead how is the easy way to replace it & do I use only a delco battery thanks joe(freeway)
If you can change a flat tire you can change the battery yourself. I replaced my battery with a Delco unit. Not sure if it was the professional one or not. People will tell you that whatever battery they are useing is the best one.
Yes, very easy to do but 2004 battery is different than 97-2003. In 2004 the correct battery is a top post battery. 97-03 are side post. I like the GM Delco. First one lasted 6 years and I bought another which went bad in 1 year but my local GM dealer replaced it free. Just remove the battery compartment cover and use a long socket extension to loosen the hold down clamp.
My factory Delco lasted 5 years on a car that would have to sit for 4-6 weeks at a time.
If your battery wont crank the car after sitting for 30 days,, you have some sort of excessive current draw or a defective battery. The BCM only draws 20-25 ma when the car is off and in the sleep /security mode.
If your battery voltage is low, but still enough juice to start the car, you may find all kinds of dashboard messages/codes on a drive until the alternator charges the battery back up to normal. Of course, you may need to replace the battery.
