LS1 Thermostat Spring Loaded?

LS1 Thermostat Spring Loaded?

So I put my new water pump on and (02 Vert). The GM guy gave me the new LS1 pump and thermostat housing. When I put the thermostat in, it bottoms out inside the housing and has some spring tension from the thermostat spring.

Is that normal?

I did a Mr Gasket thermo for 160. It had the bottoming out. Works like a champ. Loving the cool numbers. Hope that helps to compare. Kind of spooked me at first too.

Yea. Seems strange for the bottom of the stat to bottom out inside the water pump. Should I fill 'er with antifreeze and see where the fan turns on?

the fans will turn on at the same time before the swap. they are programmed in the pcm. you need to have the fans changed to lower the temp

I've run into this exact thing as well. GM parts, that is supposedly the replacement for it. The part number exchanges over to the LS2/3's as well. I went ahead and put it in and will see what happens but so far in the summer heat, its been fine. Not sure what will happen come the winter but we'll see.
