Default A/C Blues

Hey forum;
I have been working on my 98 coupe for some time now. After charging the system I noticed that once I put the proper amount of 134a in the system my ac clutch still would not kick in. I hooked up my scanner and;
P0530 A/C refrigerant pressure sensor circuit

P1545 A/C clutch relay control circuit a/c pressure

after reading extensive post here on the forum I havent found a sure test to rule out a hydro lock/ burnt compressor. Now I am presently working on what I believe to be OAT sensor, but when I follow form post to locate the 2 wire terminal I realized the orange wire is hot event without the key in the ignition. These are the photos of what I traced down to believe was OAT sensor, Im sort of at an impasse and would greatly appreciate any assistance from all that can help. "There is nothing cool about a hot vette regardless of how good it looks"

Do you have any voltage on the clutch circuit? To start, I'd check the resistance across that connector. From your pics it looks corroded. If you can clean it up to have less than 5 ohms it's good to go, for now.

Also, check the clutch relay if you don't have power. Check the clutch ground if you do. Then check the pressure sensor circuit, etc. The sensor supposedly disengages clutch above 410psi or below 30psi on my '99. But I recall my system took about 3/4 charge before the compressor finally kicked on and began circulating the refrigerant.

So the A/C clutch was working and driving the compressor _until_ the system was filled with refrigerant and _then_ it stopped working?
How much refrigerant did you put in?

That looks like a lot of corrosion in that connector end, start by getting all of it cleaned out of both side and follow up with a generous amount of electric grease.

So im clear in my explanation, the first time I drove the vette this spring I noticed that my air didn't get cold. I put her away in the garage and recovered, Pulled a vacuum on the system, broke out my scale and proceeded to fill to 1.63 lbs as per the lable under the hood. I realized that my problem is electronic ie. Pressure sensor, O.A.T. sensor. Im not a master tech but more of a renasannce type of mech. I've just ordered ref. pressure sensor that should arrive in a couple of days. Oh and the corrosion pitted connector I have already cut. I would like to know if it is the outside air temp sensor, im confussed because the one orange wire is hot all the time.

The outside temp sensor does not have an Orange wire. You need to let us know if you have Auto Climate Control, or the Manual HVAC.

OK, outside air temp sensor wires are Lt Green/Black, and Gray/Black.

Default Puzzled and perplexed

I purchased the OAT sensor and I cannot locate it. I have ruled out the plug that I have pictured above as it has to be the connection for my hood light. I have replaced the pressure switch. I removed the ram scoop that forces air up to and through the radiator, and no luck. None of the wires in that area seem to have been cut nor match the colors that you al provided me with. Im beginning to think that compressor/clutch is gone. Any suggestions on how to rule out my fears?

I have used a pair of jumper wires to provide 12V straight to the A/C compressor clutch. Do this while the engine is *not* running then you can hear the clutch kick in and out. The answer to your question will be obvious.
