Default Security light

I have a security light on steady while driving but only occasionally about every other start cycle. I get a 2721 code only when the light comes on, the strangest thing that goes along with this is the car forgets the FOB about once a week and I have to reproram it. I used to have a start problem wth the pass code key but that has subsided when I found a connector bad on key harness? I have done everything on Bill's thread and more but still have electrical gremlin running around in car.

You posted afew things there that could be unrelated problems

Focussing on the security light, you probably have a worn ignition barrel. Do you carry a lot of weight on your key ring? It may be causing the key to drop in the ignition and the VATS pellet may not be making a good contact. try your back up key and leave everything off the keyring to see if it improves.

To add, clean the metal strip on the key pellet with a soft pencil eraser. When my Security light would come on and I had no start conditions, even my spare key (which had NEVER even been used) caused the issue.

Seems that metal strip on the pellet on the spare key I never used even got some kind of coating on it from just sitting. I cleaned both key pellets with the pencil eraser and it cured the Security light from coming back on.

I recently had no start issues with the security light coming on and codes for the security system and "pull key wait 10 sec" messages .
I ended up replacing the ignition switch, after opening up the old one I now know why the car was giving all kinds of codes.
No issues since the swap.

Just a few burnt contacts on the old switch:

Great Pics, Thanks. I actually ordered a new switch since the car has 128,000 mi. Start problems have risen again so maybe new tumbler and switch will cure the problems.

A bad ignition switch will not precipitate a B2721......a bad(or flaky) lock cylinder will. Not saying you do not have two problems.......just being specific....

All,
I installed a different switch and barrel complete. Did have a few problems getting everything working again but so far so good. No codes or security light, also starts everytime. I will give it a week and reply again if fixed or not. I changed the Battery, starter, theft deterrent relay, cleaned all grounds, VOM'd all wires and it looks like it might have been the key cylinder the whole time. Car has 128,000 miles so beware the lock cylinders do wear out. I will let everyone know soon if this actually fixed the problem permanently. Thank you BC, Lucky and everyone else that helped with this.
