Chirp From Engine Torquing
I searched the archives for both 'chirp' and 'squeak', but couldn't find anything like what I'm experiencing. I'm sure this is just an annoyance and not a functional problem, and a quick talk with my mechanic (he'll see the car on Monday) seemed to confirm that. Car in neutral (6 speed), if I quickly punch the gas about 1/4 and quickly let up, I hear a pretty loud chirping noise coming from somewhere outside the car. I haven't had the opportunity to have someone else sit in the car to work the gas while I listen. It's definitely not belt noise or intake whistle, and happens when the car is perfectly still. The car is a 2001 vert. and has 11k miles on it - all good weather miles. My mechanic believes I'm hearing the springs that support the exhaust chirp as the engine torques - he claims those springs are notorious for such noises. From everything I've been able to discern, this is a feasible explaination, but I wanted to check if anyone else has experienced this just in case it turns out to be harder to find than just some springs in need of a little lube.

It is possible, but if so should be easy to fix. The exhaust hangers are all easily accesible from under the car. Get the car on a lift and check around the center hanger springs, and especially where they pas the torque tube close-out panel (heat shield).
