Ok, I drove down to SLP in Tom's River, NJ the other day to pick them up. I'm still waiting on the MO from the guy that bought my Borlas before I send them out.
First - Fit and finish wasn't perfect, but it was a LOT easier to get them in and lined up than my Borlas were. The SLPs use a band clamp to secure the tip section to the over-axle pipe. Using a LOT of leverage I was still unable to tighten them enough that the tips wouldn't turn down so I put a tach weld on the seam and they are perfect now.
First impression. WOW! Sounds great! I don't understand how/why some people think these are too loud??? With the 6-speed they are only as loud as you want them when you want them.
Description of sound - 100% *****-to-the-wall. Went for my first rip with them and had a massive poopiee-eating grin from ear to ear. Very nice!
Without a doubt, the best sounding system I have heard yet. Now I have to see how the tone changes with the inserts in place. So far, it is just wide open...... :D
I'm intrested in the loudmouth, but I do not like the look of the tips. They do sound great. Do you have a close up pic of the tips on the car? If so can you post it.Thanx
Its kind of overcast today, but tomorrow should be nice and I'll snap some digi-pics.
I think they are ok. They are electron-polished in and out and look pretty good. Where the Borlas stook out a good ways before, these are not as overly-import-style pronounced as that. They are, however, more noticable than the factory systems. I've never been one to worry too much about how my exhaust looks as how it sounds. I've only had them on sisnce yesterday and am still getting used to the different dimensions are the rear of the car. I can't believe how far the Borlas stook out!
I had the quad tip system with the X-pipe/resonator.
I never installed the resonator though. I have heard the same system WITH the resonator and was unimpressed. Without the center section mine has a similar "tone" to the XR-1 but just not as loud. I have never heard an XR-1 in person, only via soundclips on the net. The LM sounds insane when you are on the throttle. Very 60s muscle-car power sound. If you let off quick you'll get some crackle, but I am curious to see how the inserts affect that. I will probably drive it as-is until Sunday and then try with the inserts.
I have the resonators in my LM and believe me , It doesn't make any big differences. I also have an x pipe, so i'm not sure if that helps the crackel, but i don't have a problem. SLP's do rock don't they!
I couldn't let this topic go by without putting my couple pennies worth in. I had the LM on my 98 Camaro--super! Have had them on the Vette for 2 months--better than super!! No need for the famous "great WOT Sound of the Corsa's" just start the car. Any RPM level you hear these bad boys. I haven't had the tunes on since they were installed. Probably couldn't hear them anyways.
Resonance/drone? Some, but IMO, well worth it. Lighter/more HP and no ugly mufflers or "mini-mufflers" hanging down.
Yes, The LoudMouth rocks, and a lot of people's eyes roll!! Nick :yesnod:
